Wool Producers Australia says Bangladesh is an emerging wool export market

The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) at the Australian High Commission – Dhaka, together with the Australian Cotton Shippers Association (ACSA) and Wool Producers Australia (WPA),organized Australian Natural Fiber Seminar in Dhaka.
Bangladesh is the first market in which Australian cotton and Australian Merino wool will be showcased together. This exclusive seminar creates an opportunity for industry leaders from Australia and Bangladesh to connect, share insights, and strengthen commercial partnerships across the textile and apparel supply chain.

The seminar also highlighted the growing relevance of Australian Merino wool in the global knitwear sector.
Industry representatives discussed issues including yarn innovation, sustainable sourcing and developments in the wool supply chain and certification . Manufacturers from Bangladesh also shared experiences related to wool-based products.
Susan Ryle, Australian Ambassador to Bangladesh, attended the seminar as the chief guest. Other distinguished participants included Todd Miller, Trade and Investment Commissioner at Austrade, the Chairman of the Australian Cotton Shippers Association (ACSA), and Jo Hall, Chief Executive Officer of Wool Producers Australia.
The seminar highlighted how Australian cotton and Merino wool can support Bangladesh’s transition toward higher-value textile and apparel products. Industry experts discussed opportunities to strengthen sourcing partnerships and improve access to premium natural fibers.

Mr. Abdullah Al Mamun, Spokesperson of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and former Vice President of the association, attended the seminar as a special invited guest. During his remarks, he highly praised Australian cotton and emphasized the importance of reducing logistics and transportation costs to further expand cotton trade between the two countries, considering the long distance and high transportation expenses. He also urged the Australian Government to establish a bonded warehouse at Pangaon Port, near Dhaka, to facilitate a more efficient raw cotton supply chain.
The seminar was also attended by BTMA Directors, including Mr. Ruhul Amin and Ms. Sanchia Chowdhury. Syed Rezwanul Haque, along with representatives from various organizations within Bangladeshโs textile industry.
