The Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has declared “Paper Packaging” as the Product of the Year 2026 with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of exportable products in the international market, ensuring sustainable industrial development, and attracting new investment.

The Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) stated that this declaration is a historic milestone for the country’s paper packaging industry. Once entirely dependent on imports, the sector has now achieved the capacity to meet domestic demand as well as export to international markets.

BGAPMEA President Md. Shahriar said, “Paper packaging is a strategic supporting sector for Bangladesh’s garments industry and export-oriented economy. We are optimistic that the declaration of ‘Product of the Year’ will significantly boost new investment, the adoption of modern technology, employment generation, and export earnings in this industry.”

He further added that, in the context of growing global demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable packaging, Bangladesh’s paper packaging industry will be able to establish a strong position in the international market.

According to BGAPMEA sources, during the early days of the garments industry, the country’s packaging sector was entirely import-dependent. However, through entrepreneurs’ investments, skilled workforce development, and government policy support, the industry has now become self-sufficient and is playing a significant role in earning foreign currency.

BGAPMEA has expressed sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Commerce, relevant government departments, and the policymakers of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for this recognition, which will contribute to the sustainable development and export expansion of the industry.
