Macy’s plans to shutter 45 stores. By the middle of 2021, the chosen sites will be closed and liquidation sales have already taken place in some areas. Macy’s had a three-year Polaris plan before the pandemic itself which involved major closures, primarily at Tier C and D malls. The pandemic caused by coronavirus swept the world, but Macy has held its doors all year round.
The retailer tried the concept of “dark stores” in October for holiday on two locations in Littleton, Col., Southwest Plaza and Dover Mall, in Del, after the pandemic, to complete digital orders for the Polaris Programme. In the fourth quarter, manufacturers typically carry out these surveys to see what the companies do over the vacations. The corporation reassessed the business closure strategy and noted that decisions would rely on the expected revenue and viability of a four-wall shop. Closing announcements are normally made in January, as a practice.
