Today, Saturday (May 11), the BUTEX Business Club, one of the clubs of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX), successfully concluded its 5th industry visit at the BEXIMCO Industrial Park in Gazipur. Fifteen members of the club from the (45-48)th batch of the university had the opportunity to participate in the industry visit.

The textile industry stands as a major powerhouse in our economy, contributing almost four to five percent of the total GDP. The unparalleled dependency on this sector is crucial for Bangladesh’s economic stability, reliance, future, and progress. Most aspects of these issues are controlled by textile engineers.
Apart from academic studies, those with practical experience tend to have a greater influence in the industry. Therefore, since the inception of establishment linkage, the Butex Business Club has been conducting various skill development programs for university students. Industry visits are a significant step in this continuous endeavor.

The main objective of this industry visit organized by the club was to observe all stages of textile manufacturing closely. In the delightful experience, students could learn about spinning, weaving, dyeing, and denim-related facts at the Beximco Industrial Park. A constant guide was available for students’ assistance throughout the visit. At the end of the visit, everyone spent some time at the Beximco Mini Zoo before heading home.
In response to a journalist’s question, the president of the club, Asif Iqbal, stated that, alongside studying textile engineering, having an understanding of ongoing industry activities is crucial. This would allow students better to comprehend the practical implications of their university education. Based on this idea, the Business Club initiated industrial visits, with the most recent and 5th industrial visit being to the BEXIMCO Industrial Park.
Subsequently, the general secretary, Shariful Islam Akash, mentioned that solely relying on textbooks won’t suffice for students; there needs to be connectivity with factories. Hence, the club regularly organizes factory visits to enhance interaction and understanding of the entire management system. Additionally, efforts are being made to bridge the gap between industry and academia.
It’s worth noting that the Business Club has organized visits to a total of five industries, including Square Textiles Limited, Dysin-Chem Limited, Blucheez, Bureau 555, and Beximco Industrial Park.
