Urmi Group, a leading name in Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments industry is championing gender equality and womenβs leadership. As part of this commitment, Urmi Group took the stage at the UN Global Compact Network Bangladesh’s panel session on “Breaking Barriers: Achieving Gender Equality through Women’s Representation in Senior Management” at Forward Faster Now Asia & Oceania in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Shamarukh Fakhruddin, Director of Urmi Group, represented us on this esteemed panel. She shared her valuable experience from the Ready-Made Garments industry, where the majority of workers are women, contributing significantly to Bangladeshβs economy. Despite this, there’s still a noticeable gap in gender diversity within supervisory, managerial, and leadership roles.
Urmi Group is taking action with a forward-thinking 10-year plan focused on empowering more women to step into mid and high-level management positions through dedicated training programs. Ms. Shamarukh felt that her position as a female board member played a key role in fast track this agenda.

Urmi Group puts high priority in driving positive change for gender equality in Bangladesh. Together, we’re moving towards a more inclusive and equitable future.
