Angelika Schindler Obenhaus, CEO GERRY WEBER International AG

Angelika Schindler-Obenhaus is the new CEO at GERRY WEBER. Angelika Schindler-Obenhaus has been a member of the Board of the GERRY WEBER Group since August 2020. In her role as the CEO, she is responsible for the design, production, procurement, and marketing/communication. Recently Textile Focus Coordinator Pranta Biswas talked with Angelika Schindler-Obenhaus where she mentioned global fashion retail conditions during the pandemic. Gerry Weber has been sourcing from Bangladesh for a long time and also looking for more cooperation from our industry. The conversation is drafted below: 

Pranta: How are you observing global fashion retail business during the pandemic?

Angelika: The Corona pandemic has also been a driver in the fashion industry in terms of many factors: Digitalisation has become much more important in the entire value chain from product development to sourcing and distribution to the end customer. Sustainability has become much more important in a comparably short period of time. In addition, the pandemic has of course also had an impact on fashion trends: Comfort has become an integral part of fashion, and no one wants to wear constricting or uncomfortable clothes any more. This trend must now be translated into the post-Corona era, where we all want to shine and go out more again without giving up the comfort we have experienced.

Pranta: What is the product specialties of Gerry Weber International AG?

Angelika: Our product expertise lies particularly in knitwear and trousers. Our USPs are still fit and quality, which we are particularly good at reproducing in these areas.

Pranta: What is your current sourcing plan from Bangladesh?

Angelika: We started to produce even Blazer, blouses and skirts with success in Bangladesh. Our technical controlling team is growing and the daily communication even. We are happy that our strongly selected partners are able to produce our quality standard. Until now we have strong partnerships in other countries, therefore we didn’t find until now the right one in Bangladesh.

Pranta: Any Message to the Global Fashion Retail Industry?

Angelika: If we act together now, we can change something in the entire fashion industry for the benefit of all involved: Less mass and fast fashion, more sustainable quality and better working conditions. There has never been a more promising time for such fundamental changes than now.
