Advancing U.S.–Bangladesh Economic Ties: AmCham and US-Bangla Business Council Explore New Avenues for Investment and Collaboration

AmCham Bangladesh was delighted to host a Networking Reception today, Wednesday, 12 August 2026, for the visiting delegation of the U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) at InterContinental Dhaka—a platform to connect, exchange perspectives, and explore avenues for closer collaboration.

Welcoming the delegation, AmCham President Mr. Syed Mohammad Kamal highlighted the strong common ground between AmCham and USBBC, particularly their shared commitment to advancing U.S. business interests in Bangladesh. He emphasized the scope for closer collaboration on policy advocacy, building on recent joint engagement on issues including the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), and working together to support a more predictable and enabling business environment. Referring to AmCham’s call-on with the Honorable Prime Minister a day earlier, he shared several priority areas for greater U.S.–Bangladesh economic engagement—including technology and digital innovation, AI, cloud and cybersecurity, healthcare and life sciences, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and financial sector modernization, while welcoming USBBC’s perspectives on other promising sectors.

Building on more than US$5 billion invested by AmCham member companies in Bangladesh over the past two decades, the AmCham President reiterated AmCham’s commitment to help facilitate an additional US$5 billion in investment through its member companies over the next five years. He noted that AmCham had sought the Honorable Prime Minister’s support in advancing this ambition, and the Prime Minister assured his full cooperation. He also highlighted the opportunity for AmCham and USBBC to work together toward—and potentially beyond—this goal by attracting more U.S. companies and investment to Bangladesh.

Representing USBBC, Ambassador (Retd.) Atul Keshap, President, U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council and Senior Vice President, South Asia, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Oliver Simpson, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer, Excelerate Energy, thanked AmCham for hosting the reception and expressed their interest in working more closely together to support U.S. businesses in Bangladesh, strengthen policy advocacy and encourage greater U.S. investment.

The morning concluded on a warm note, with an invitation to the USBBC delegation and its members to join the 29th U.S. Trade Show, AmCham’s flagship annual event later this year.
