AMFB Expands Executive Board to 21 Members, Announces Policy Initiatives for Bangladesh’s Apparel Industry

The Apparel Merchandiser Foundation of Bangladesh (AMFB) has announced an expanded Executive Committee comprising 21 executive board members, aiming to strengthen its organizational capacity and play a more effective role in addressing the emerging challenges of Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment (RMG) and apparel industry. The announcement was made today at a grand discussion and industry dialogue held at Uttara Club, Dhaka, organized by AMFB to discuss the recent crises and emerging challenges facing the RMG sector, particularly issues affecting the apparel merchandising community and the broader industry. Industry professionals, apparel merchandisers, and stakeholders participated in the program, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration, practical policy initiatives, and greater representation of merchandising professionals in industry-level discussions.

Focus on Policy Recommendations

During the discussion, AMFB identified several contemporary challenges confronting the apparel and merchandising sector and agreed to develop a set of policy recommendations and strategic proposals. These recommendations will subsequently be presented for further discussion with relevant policymakers, industry leaders, factory owners and other stakeholders. AMFB believes that apparel merchandisers play a critical role in Bangladesh’s export-oriented RMG industry, connecting international buyers, manufacturers and supply-chain stakeholders. Therefore, strengthening the professional community is essential to improving competitiveness, productivity, communication, and the sector’s long-term sustainability.

Executive Committee Expanded from 15 to 21 Members

As part of its organizational expansion, AMFB has decided to increase the size of its existing Executive Board from 15 members to 21 members. According to the organization, the expansion will create greater opportunities for professional participation, diversify expertise within the leadership, and enable AMFB to respond more effectively to the apparel industry’s rapidly changing requirements. The newly expanded committee will strengthen professional development, industry networking, knowledge sharing, policy advocacy, and welfare initiatives for the merchandising community.

Constitution to Be Reorganized

The meeting also discussed the need to reorganize and update AMFB’s existing constitution to make it more relevant to the current realities and future requirements of the apparel merchandising profession. The proposed restructuring is expected to focus on improving organizational governance, defining responsibilities, increasing transparency, and creating a stronger institutional framework for AMFB’s future activities.

Annual Activity Calendar to Be Introduced

Another major decision taken at the meeting was the introduction of a yearly scheduled activity calendar for AMFB. The annual calendar will include professional development programs, seminars, industry discussions, networking events, knowledge-sharing sessions, social initiatives and other activities designed to provide greater value to members and the wider merchandising community. AMFB expects the structured calendar to make its activities more predictable, professional and accessible to industry professionals throughout the year.

Building a Stronger Merchandising Community

The leadership of AMFB emphasized that the organization aims to evolve beyond a professional networking platform and become a strong, responsible and constructive voice for the apparel merchandising community. The organization intends to work collaboratively with apparel manufacturers, exporters, buyers, policymakers, industry associations and other stakeholders to identify practical solutions to the challenges facing Bangladesh’s apparel sector. The latest initiatives are seen as an important step toward creating a more organized, knowledgeable, and influential merchandising community capable of contributing to the continued growth and competitiveness of Bangladesh’s apparel industry in the global market.

AMFB leadership expressed optimism that the expanded committee, proposed constitutional reforms, policy initiatives, and annual activity calendar will collectively strengthen the foundation and create a more sustainable platform for Bangladesh’s apparel merchandising professionals. The grand discussion was held at Uttara Club, Dhaka, bringing together professionals and stakeholders from the apparel and merchandising community to discuss the industry’s present challenges and future direction.
