Anwar Cement Sheet Limited, a key division of Bangladesh’s oldest industrial conglomerate—Anwar Group, is taking a bold step towards environmental sustainability by pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for its plant in Gozaria, Munshigonj.
The Company has embarked on its sustainability journey by signing a partnership agreement with 360° Total Solution Limited (TSL), a leading LEED green building consulting company in Bangladesh.
A signing ceremony recently took place at Anwar Group’s headquarters in Motijheel, Dhaka. Waeez R. Hossain, Deputy Managing Director of Anwar Group, and Ananta Ahmed, Managing Director of 360° TSL, were present as signatories, marking a significant milestone in their collaboration for achieving LEED certification.
LEED certification will focus on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, improved indoor air quality, and sustainable maintenance practices. The certification will be pursued under the Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (EB O+M) v4 2014 Rating System, establishing a new standard for green operations in the industrial sector.
Waeez R. Hossain, Deputy Managing Director of Anwar Group of Industries, said ” Cement sheet stands out as a sustainable option, offering high durability, energy efficiency, recyclable materials, reduced CO2 emissions in production, low maintenance, and adherence to LEED green building criteria. By pursuing LEED, we aim to implement global green building standards that boost operational efficiency and minimize environmental impact.”
Ananta Ahmed, Managing Director of 360° TSL said that his company has already completed the LEED preliminary assessment of the project and they find that the project qualifies for LEED certifications and is aligned with LEED Platinum certification requirements.
He also said “Anwar Cement Sheet is a unique product that can contribute to new project development process as a sustainable product. Carbon footprint of the Anwar Cement Sheet is very low and is very durable. Also, it will reduce the heat gain to create comfortable spaces.”
Anwar Cement Sheet is a leading fibre cement sheet manufacturer in Bangladesh, used for constructing both residential and commercial sheds. Notably, Anwar Cement Sheets can reduce indoor temperatures by up to 12°C, lowering energy consumption and helping combat climate change by cutting carbon emissions.
