Argon Spinning Ltd. embodies the spirit of Bangladesh’s textile industry resilient, ambitious, and forward-looking

Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector is built on resilience, innovation, and the drive to move up the global value chain. Argon Spinning ltd. Established in 20th March, 2011 & Production started on April 2016 with 130 workers on an average are working per shift now. Total no of employees in Argon Spinning Limited is currently about 550. Out of that vision came Argon Spinning Ltd., which has since grown into a trusted producer of high-quality yarn for both local and international buyers. Argon Spinning ensures world class infrastructure solutions to customers and stakeholders across a broad range of Spinning industry sectors. In this special interview, Team Textile Focus sat down with Mr. Abu Kawser Majumder, Director of Argon Spinning Ltd. to trace their journey, explore their strengths, discuss challenges in spinning production, and hear about their vision for the future. A short brief is given below for our respective readers.

Textile Focus: Could you please share with us the journey of Argon Spinning Ltd?

Abu Kawser Majumder: At the beginning of 2007, we started Argon Denim before Argon Spinning. From the very beginning, part of our master plan was to go for backward integration. Denim production, especially today, has become highly customized. That means keeping stock is not an option. Since a major portion of the denim industry depends on value-added fancy yarn, spinning was always a part of our long-term strategy.

Argon Spinning Ltd. was formally incorporated as a Private Limited Company on 20th March 2011 under the Companies Act 1994. After years of preparation, commercial operations began in May 2016 in Habiganj district, Bangladesh. Since then, the company has steadily built a reputation for advanced production, strict quality assurance, and a keen understanding of the demands of global buyers.

Unlike many conventional mills, Argon Spinning is equipped with a fully automated system, covering everything from material movement to cone production. This investment in automation allows for consistency, efficiency, and reduced waste crucial advantages in today’s competitive textile industry. The factory houses 28,992 Ring Spindles and 800 Rotors. Together, they deliver an impressive monthly production capacity:

  • Core Spandex Yarn – 105 tons
  • Ring Yarn – 885 tons
  • Open-End Yarn – 270 tons

The yarn count ranges from Ne 6/1 to Ne 30/1 in the ring process and Ne 7/1 to Ne 16/1 in the rotor process. These products are sold primarily to export-oriented woven fabric producers, often through the nomination of foreign buyers.

Textile Focus: As a large and trusted spinning, what are the key strengths of Argon?

Abu Kawser Majumder: First is technology. Our investment in advanced machinery and automation allows us to maintain world-class standards. Second is quality control. From raw material to final yarn, every stage undergoes strict monitoring. Third is people, we believe in continuous training and skill development, as our workforce is the backbone of everything we do. And finally, our design and marketing capabilities. Our sample development and established networks give us an edge in understanding and meeting market trends. This holistic approach has made Argon Spinning a reliable partner in the global textile value chain, particularly in denim and woven fabric production.

Textile Focus: What challenges are you facing in spinning production?

Abu Kawser Majumder: The volatility of raw material prices, especially cotton, is a major issue. Cotton is our lifeline, and global market fluctuations directly impact our costs. Energy supply and rising utility costs also pose hurdles. At the same time, global buyers increasingly demand innovative and value-added yarns, which require us to constantly upgrade machinery and skills. And of course, we operate in a very competitive landscape, both domestically and internationally. Despite these challenges, Argon remains confident that its investment in automation, efficiency, and quality will help weather these storms.

Textile Focus: Bangladesh still produces basic yarn and fabrics, the RMG sector targets 100 billion exports by 2030. How can we achieve this?

Abu Kawser Majumder: With Bangladesh aiming for 100 billion dollars in RMG exports by 2030, the role of spinning mills becomes even more crucial. To reach this ambitious target, we must move beyond basic yarn and fabrics. The focus has to be on value addition and product diversification. This means producing blended, functional, and specialized yarns that meet the evolving needs of global fashion markets. Strengthening backward linkages is also essential to reduce reliance on imported raw materials. Additionally, strong government policies on infrastructure, energy stability, and skill development will be critical. If we align these factors, the 100-billion target is within reach.

Textile Focus: What is your future plan regarding product diversification and upcoming investment?

Abu Kawser Majumder: We are very focused on product diversification. Beyond our existing yarn portfolio, we are exploring new categories like blends, melanges, and functional yarns. At the same time, we’re investing in sustainable yarns, including organic and recycled options, to meet the growing demand from environmentally conscious buyers. We want to increase our capacity with more advanced machinery and automation. This will not only boost efficiency but also allow us to cater to a wider range of buyers. Our ultimate goal is to evolve from being just a spinning mill to a complete solution provider for the textile value chain.
