Bangladesh govt has approved a new water treatment plant in the(NSEZ) at Mirsharai, Chattogram

The government has approved a new water treatment plant in the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) at Mirsharai, Chattogram. The facility will treat 50 million litres of water per day, ensuring a stable supply for industries in the zone.

A joint venture of ZHEC-BOW-SMEDRIC won the Tk 518.61 crore contract. The project is set for completion by June 2026.

Md Helal Ahmed, the project director, emphasized the plant’s importance. He noted that while designed for 50 million litres per day, it can supply up to 100 million litres if needed.

Today, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase reviewed and approved the project proposal from the Office of the Chief Adviser. Once operational, the plant will strengthen NSEZ’s infrastructure and attract both local and foreign investors.

Industries such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and agro-processing will benefit from an uninterrupted water supply. This will reduce production delays and improve efficiency.

The project will also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs. By strengthening NSEZ’s infrastructure, it aligns with the government’s vision of industrial growth and economic progress.

With this approval, the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) moves closer to securing a reliable water supply for NSEZ, making the region more investment-friendly.
