BGMEA Director Mohiuddin Rubel said in his statement,
Despite the headwinds of a global economic downturn and domestic challenges, Bangladesh’s RMG industry remains steadfast in its pursuit of sustainable growth. Our achievement of numerous LEED certifications underscores our proactive stance on environmental sustainability and reinforces our position as a trusted sourcing partner. Sustainability has always been a cornerstone of our operations, ensuring that our growth aligns with international best practices and environmental stewardship.
Bangladesh’s progress in green growth is a significant step toward achieving net zero carbon emission. This achievement is a testament to the collaborative efforts of buyers, the government, and development organizations. Their support has been instrumental in driving the industry forward, enabling us to maintain our competitive edge while setting new benchmarks in sustainability. With continued partnership and dedication, we are confident that the Bangladesh RMG industry will reach new heights of excellence, further cementing its position as a global leader in sustainable and ethical manufacturing.
We are excited to build upon this momentum and continue our journey toward creating a more sustainable and environmentally responsible industry.
Industry insiders said that these green factories help dramatically save operational expenses over time even though they may initially cost more to set up.
Green factories are expected to help reduce energy use by 40%, water consumption by more than 30% and carbon dioxide emissions, further ensuring environmental safety, said the BGMEA.
As the factory owners are required to adhere to specific criteria for the construction of the buildings, these factories also provide a safe working environment for employees.
