Bangladesh now has 165 LEED certified green garment factories

Two more factories get recognised as green

Desk Report: Bangladesh has touched the milestone of having 165 US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified green apparel factories, the highest among any country.

According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the country now has 50 platinum green factories, 101 gold,  10 silver and another 4 LEED certified factory buildings. More than 500 garment factories are waiting for  the LEED certification from the USGBC.

Now, Bangladesh has the largest number of green factories in the world and it is growing even more said, Mohiuddin Rubel, Director, BGMEA. He also  said that they are moving towards a sustainable and green infrastructure in the apparel sector.

The Green Factory Revolution reached to a landmark, we now have 50 LEED Platinum and 101 LEED Gold,said, Mohiuddin Rubel, Director, BGMEA.

According to the BGMEA, LEED Certification status based on July 2022-Habitus Fashion Ltd (Platinum-91) and Faiza Industries Ltd (Gold-64) achieves LEED( Platinum ,Gold) by USGBC.

Most of green factories are located in Dhaka, followed by Gazipur, Chattogram and Narayanganj . Savar , Comilla Habiganj Recently BGMEA has been awarded the 2021 USGBC Leadership Award by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for green initiatives in the apparel industry.
