Bangladesh’s garment industry has never had a smooth journey — in its 45 years of history, it has faced countless crises, yet every time it has risen again with renewed strength and hope.

In recent few months, we have witnessed devastating factory shutdowns, fires, labor unrest, political instability and growing uncertainty within the business community. These incidents have created anxiety not only among owners and workers but also among students and the next generation of textile professionals who wonder what the future holds for this vital industry.
Yet, I firmly believe that Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector today is a mature and resilient industry. Our entrepreneurs are dynamic, experienced, and innovative — they know how to handle challenges and navigate uncertainty. This is not only a story of Bangladesh — the entire global apparel supply chain is being reshaped by geopolitical tensions, the rise of the circular economy, and changes in buyers’ sourcing strategies.
Bangladesh is feeling the additional impact of these shifts, but the silver lining is that our international buyers have deep experience working with Bangladesh. They understand our political and economic realities and have already adapted to execute their orders effectively from here. That mutual trust remains our greatest strength.
Now is the time to focus on technological advancement, upskilling, and stronger communication, as consumer behavior is rapidly changing. The new generation’s values, lifestyle, and purchasing habits are transforming the market — and the businesses that can adapt will be the ones that survive and grow.
This transition may take five to six years to fully stabilize. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that Bangladesh’s RMG industry always finds a way to rise — stronger, smarter, and more united than before.
I am a simple observer with limited knowledge, so please forgive any shortcomings in my words.
Still, I want to end with the same belief — Hope always shows the way.
My deepest respect to every individual in this industry who continues to uphold the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy through their hard work and dedication.
