Desk Report: H.E Majesty Mathilde, Queen of Belgium, visited Bangladesh-based apparel manufacturing unit Fakir Apparels Ltd in Naraynganj to witness the progress of Bangladesh’s RMG industry in social, environmental and economic fronts and its contribution to women’s empowerment and their welfare.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, ILO Country Director Tuomo Poutiainen and Executive President of BKMEA Mohammad Hatem were also present during the Queen’s visit.
There was a brief presentation where we shared some impactful stories that have resulted from the social and environmental practices deployed at Fakir Apparels, in line with 4 SDG goals including gender equality and quality education. We highlighted the fact that this is the story not only for Fakir Apparels but many other factories in Bangladesh and we asked Her Majesty to share our story that still largely remains uncovered in the western hemisphere said, Fakir Rafsanuzaman Director, Fakir Apparels Ltd.
Later Her Majesty visited the production floor and daycare where she interacted with our employees, particularly women and children. She commended Fakir Apparels and the industry for our efforts in pursuit of true sustainability in Bangladesh.
The BGMEA President requested the Belgian Queen to share the positive stories of Bangladesh’s apparel industry on global platforms and with the international community.
