BGMEA President calls on Canadian Tire to increase sourcing from Bangladesh

Desk Report: The impressive strides of Bangladesh’s RMG industry in the areas of workplace safety and environmental sustainability have strengthened the position of the country in the global market and boosted the confidence of global apparel buyers, said Faruque Hassan, President of BGMEA.

“Building upon the achievements, Bangladesh has continued its endeavors to pursue excellence and retain the reputation as a safe and sustainable apparel sourcing destination in the world. The industry is also increasingly focusing on enhancing business capabilities through product diversification, technology upgradation and skill development ,” he said.

He made the comments while speaking at a vendor summit organized by Canadian Tire Corporation at a hotel in Dhaka on September 20.

James Prescott, Vice President, Global Sourcing and Procurement; Eddy Kong, General Manager, Asia, Jia Uddin, Country Manager, Canadian Tire Corporation, among others, were present at the summit which was joined by Bangladeshi suppliers working with the Canadian clothing brand.

Faruque Hassan appreciated the Canadian Tire for organizing the summit saying it would help to strengthen partnership between the brand and its suppliers. He called on Canadian Tire to increase its apparel sourcing from Bangladesh.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan invited them to the “Made in Bangladesh Week” which will be organized by BGMEA on 12-18 November this year  to showcase prospects and strengths of the RMG industry of Bangladesh.
