BGMEA President meets Inspector General of Police

Desk Report: BGMEA President Faruque Hassan met with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun BPM (Bar), PPM at the police headquarters in Dhaka on December 1. BGMEA Directors Asif Ashraf and Rajiv Chowdhury were also present at the meeting.

They had discussions about the overall situation of the RMG industry, including its current challenges and prospects.

The IGP was also given an overview of the future priorities of Bangladesh’s apparel industry including strong emphasis on skills and efficiency enhancement, technological upgradation, and diversification of products, especially non-cotton and technical textiles.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said the Police has a key role to play in supporting the next phase of Bangladesh’s economic development through maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the industrial areas as it is a prerequisite for smooth functioning of industries.

He expressed thanks and gratitude to the Police for providing their support and cooperation to the RMG industry by maintaining law and order situations and assuring security in the garment sector.

He sought cooperation of the IGP to step up police vigilance on Dhaka-Chattogram highways to stop the theft of readymade garments goods during transportation.

“BGMEA has been making committed efforts to brighten the image of Bangladesh and the RMG industry globally. As part of the efforts, BGMEA has recently organized the Made in Bangladesh Week to promote Bangladesh and the apparel industry internationally,” he said.

However, such stealing incidents not only cause financial losses to RMG exporters, but also creates a bad image among buyers, he added.

He expressed thanks to all the government departments including Police for extending cooperation in organising the mega event which was attended by a stakeholders from home abroad.
