BGMEA Provides Humanitarian Support to Flood-Affected People in Chattogram

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is continuing its relief support for people affected by the recent floods in Chattogram caused by heavy rainfall and hill torrents. The initiative is part of BGMEA’s commitment to social responsibility.

The relief program is being carried out under the initiative of BGMEA Acting President Selim Rahman and the supervision of Acting Vice President Enamul Aziz Chowdhury.

As part of the program, BGMEA handed over 200 sacks of relief goods each to Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali on 14 July and Chattogram District Superintendent of Police Md. Masud Alam, BPM on 16 July. The relief goods will be distributed quickly to people affected by the floods.

The relief goods were handed over by BGMEA Acting Vice President Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, Director and Former First Vice President S. M. Abu Tayeb, Director Md. M. Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Former Director Khandaker Belayet Hossain, and BGMEA Standing Committee Chairmen Wadud Mohammad Chowdhury, Kazi Md. Shafiqul Islam (Titu), Arshad-ur-Rahman, Riaz Waez, and Bashir Uddin Ahmed. Senior officials from CMP, Chattogram District Police, and BGMEA were also present.

CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali and Superintendent of Police Md. Masud Alam, BPM thanked BGMEA for this humanitarian support. They said the relief goods would be delivered to the affected families quickly, fairly, and in an organized way.

Earlier, on 15 July, BGMEA Standing Committee Chairmen and senior officials visited flood-affected areas in Banshkhali and Satkania upazilas of Chattogram. They distributed essential relief goods to more than one thousand affected families.

BGMEA leaders said that helping people during disasters is a social and moral responsibility. They also said that along with government efforts, support from the private sector is very important in dealing with natural disasters.

BGMEA has always played an active role not only in developing Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry but also in supporting people during difficult times. The association will continue to stand beside people affected by disasters and provide humanitarian assistance whenever needed.
