Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) announced a grant of Tk 5 lakh to the family of the garment worker, who was killed during a clash with police in Ashulia area, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka on Monday.
BGMEA, a nationwide trade organization of garment manufacturers in Bangladesh, made the announcement in a press statement this evening.
Expressing condolences over the tragic death of the RMG worker, the organisation said that compensation would be provided to the victim’s family as soon as possible, in accordance with labour laws.
Earlier in the day, Kawsar Hossain Khan, 27, a worker of Mango Tex was killed, and over 30 others were injured during a clash between workers and members of the law enforcement agency in Ashulia industrial area.
Three RMG workers, including Kawsar, were admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar with bullet injuries and Kawsar was declared dead around 1 pm.
Following the evolving situation, the BGMEA sought cooperation from all authorities concerned to ensure law and order in the RMG sector.
