BPAMEA Polls on August 1

President’s post to be contested; voting for five Chattogram directors as only six candidates remain

The biennial election of the Bangladesh Packaging and Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPAMEA) for the 2026–28 term will be held on Saturday, August 1. This year’s election will see a contest only for the president’s post, while members from the Chattogram region will vote to elect five directors.

According to the final list of candidates published by the Election Board, Md. Shahriar, Managing Director of Adzi Trims Ltd. and panel leader of the Okko Porishad, will contest the president’s post against Jamil Ahmed of Britannia Label BD Ltd., who is running as an independent candidate.

Meanwhile, six vice presidents and 15 directors from the Okko Porishad panel have already been elected unopposed. They are Shahzada Mahmud Chowdhury as First Vice President (Chattogram), Md. Moniruzzaman Molla as Senior Vice President, Zahir Uddin Alamgir as Second Vice President, Saiful Islam (Sabuj) as Vice President (Finance), and Zahir Uddin Md. Babur and Kazi Fahad as Vice Presidents.

Voting will also be held to elect five directors from the Chattogram region. The Okko Porishad nominees are Bashir Ahmed of Pam Complex, Mohammad Sayem Uddin of High Speed Packaging & Accessories, Belal Uddin of Blue Pack Ltd., Md. Fazlul Karim (Sahed) of Sufi Dyeing & Accessories Industries, and Abul Fazal Md. Ibnul Hasan of Hasan Trims & Accessories.

Outside the Okko Porishad panel, Md. Fazla Elahi, Director of Holy Elastic, was the only candidate from the Chattogram region. He also applied to withdraw his candidature on July 17, but the deadline for withdrawal of nominations had expired on July 4. As a result, voting will also take place for all five director positions.

At a panel introduction programme held at a hotel in the capital on Saturday night, Okko Porishad panel leader Md. Shahriar presented his panel’s 11-point election manifesto.

Addressing the programme, Shahriar said, “In the last election, we made 21 commitments, and with everyone’s cooperation we were able to fulfil 20 of them. We are grateful to all who supported us.”

He added, “In this election as well, members have already elected our panel unopposed in 21 posts (technically 26 positions). We sincerely thank all our members for their trust and support.”

Among the special guests at the event were Al Muslim Group Founder Mohammad Abdullah, former BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem, BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russell, Bangladesh Employers’ Federation President Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, BAYLA President Abrar Hossain Sayem, former BPGMEA Presidents Rafez Alam Chowdhury, Abdul Kader Khan and Moazzem Hossain Moti, former Uttara Club President Nasir U Ahmed, BKMEA Director Imran Kader Turzo, and BGBA Vice President Md. Roman Mia.

Speaking at the programme, Kazi Fahad, who was elected Vice President unopposed, said the association had officially changed its name to the Bangladesh Packaging and Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPAMEA) because member companies now produce packaging and accessories not only for the apparel industry but also for various other industries. As a result, the word “Garments” has been dropped from the association’s previous name.

According to the Election Board, a notice was issued on July 23 confirming the polling venues.

Voting will take place from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm simultaneously at two centres. The Dhaka polling centre will be at Hall-5 of the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), while the Chattogram polling centre will be at the BGMEA Auditorium in South Khulshi. Vote counting will begin immediately after polling at the respective centres, and the results will be announced there. The Election Board has requested all voters to arrive at their designated polling centres on time with their voter ID cards.
