BSREA appreciates the govt. initiative to expand the renewable energy sector

The Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) warmly welcomes and appreciates the government’s initiative to expand the renewable energy sector, particularly the ambitious target of achieving 10,000 MW of solar power by 2030. This reflects a visionary and timely commitment toward ensuring Bangladesh’s energy security and economic resilience.

In the context of the ongoing global energy crisis, renewable energy is no longer optional for Bangladesh—it is a necessity. This initiative will significantly reduce import dependency, ease pressure on foreign currency reserves, and pave the way for a sustainable energy future.

However, BSREA strongly emphasizes that the policy framework must be win-win and investment-friendly. Past experiences have shown that targets set without practical alignment may not deliver expected outcomes. For instance, despite a plan to achieve 3,000 MW of rooftop solar by 2025, progress remained limited, partly due to policy approaches that placed excessive burden on the private sector.

Since the current government has taken responsibility, BSREA has been actively working to support accelerated adoption of solar, wind, and other renewable energy solutions to address the ongoing energy crisis.

At this critical stage, we respectfully urge the government to engage all stakeholders, especially the private sector, before finalizing policies—ensuring they are realistic, implementable, and conducive to investment.

We remain optimistic that under the government’s strong and forward-looking leadership, Bangladesh will successfully transition toward a secure, sustainable, and resilient energy future.
