The Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) is a leading organization dedicated to promoting sustainable and renewable energy solutions in Bangladesh. Established to accelerate the country’s transition to clean energy, BSREA works closely with government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and international partners to advocate for policies that support renewable energy development. The association plays a crucial role in fostering innovation, investment, and awareness in sectors such as solar, wind, biomass, and hydro energy. Through research, training, and collaboration, BSREA aims to create a sustainable energy future for Bangladesh, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating environmental impacts.
Mostafa Al Mahmud, President of BSREA talked with Textile Focus about clean energy and BSREA policymakers and stakeholder’s activities. The Bangladesh Solar & Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) plays a pivotal role in the advancement of clean energy within Bangladesh. Its activities encompass a broad spectrum aimed at fostering the growth and adoption of clean energy and energy-efficient technologies across the nation.
Mostafa Al Mahmud said, “You all know that BSREA (Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association) works in the sustainable energy and fuel sector in Bangladesh and conducts business in this field. We are a member of BCCI (Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and are licensed under the Ministry of Commerce.
Trade organizations play a crucial role, especially when dealing with serious issues or challenging conditions, as they work closely with the government. A new committee has already been formed for the 2025-26 term, and they are committed to further strengthening this sector in the coming years. If Bangladesh expands its energy security and addresses fuel crises, it will become easier and more essential for us to operate efficiently. You may have noticed that the cost of renewable energy has significantly decreased compared to traditional fuels, especially with the price of solar energy becoming more affordable. Many industrial owners in Bangladesh are now increasingly interested in sustainable energy because it helps reduce utility costs. That is why we ensure our members’ rights, encourage them, and share important information.”
He further added, “We frequently discuss various issues with the government, but our primary focus is on the overall development of the sector. As a result, renewable energy has gained widespread acceptance and expansion in Bangladesh. Rooftop solar has become particularly popular because it can generate the same amount of energy as traditional fuels but at a much lower cost. We have made specific proposals to the government regarding installing solar panels on vacant government building rooftops through direct utility companies. We hope that 4,000 to 5,000 megawatts of electricity can be generated from rooftop solar installations. Additionally, this new committee is making significant progress, working collaboratively to advance the sector. We are making every effort to brainstorm, conduct seminars, symposiums, and collaborate with other countries to drive innovation. We hope that with collective efforts, we can maintain this momentum and bring about even more remarkable changes in Bangladesh’s energy sector.”
