The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) proudly acknowledges and commends the remarkable progress achieved during its recent official visit to Washington, D.C. led by ВТМА President Mr. Showkat Aziz Russell.

The BTMA delegation extended heartfelt appreciations to the Honourable Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Sheikh Bashir Uddin, and his team for their tireless efforts in securing a significant reduction in U.S. tariffs on Bangladeshi Ready-Made Garment (RMG) exports. This milestone marks a critical breakthrough for Bangladesh’s export competitiveness and bilateral trade relations with the United States.
During the high-level visit, a couple of prominent BTMA member mills reaffirmed their commitment to deepening commercial ties with the U.S. by pledging substantial imports of American cotton. The participating mills include:
Mosharaf Composite Textile Mills Ltd., represented by Mr. Md. Mosharaf Hossain, Asia Composite Mills Ltd., represented by Mr. Md. Masud Rana, Salma Group, represented by Mr. Chowdhury Md. Hanif Shoeb and Ms. Salma Chowdhury.
The key delegation meeting was honored by the presence of Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Honorable National Security Advisor of Bangladesh. Senior government officials, including Commerce Secretary Mr. Mahbubur Rahman and Dr. Nazneen Kawshar Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (WTO Wing), Ministry of Commerce who also participated in the discussions, underscored the collaborative spirit of this initiative.
An evening reception was graciously hosted by Mr. DM Salahuddin Mahmud, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Washington, D.C.
Earlier that day, the delegation engaged in a fruitful dialogue with the President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and representatives from prominent American business entities. The meeting was also attended by former U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Peter D. Haas.
During the sessions, American business leaders expressed strong interest in expanding trade and investment with Bangladesh. The Honorable Advisor assured U.S. counterparts of full support from the Government of Bangladesh in fostering a conducive environment for mutual growth and cooperation.
BTMA remains committed to promoting sustainable trade partnerships and strengthening Bangladesh’s position in the global textile supply chain.
