BTMA delegation met with the Director General of BGB

On November 20, 2024, a delegation from BTMA) met with the Director General BGB) at BGB Headquarters.

During the meeting, BTMA leaders expressed concerns about smuggling of significant quantities of textile products and yarn into Bangladesh from neighboring countries through hidden compartments in stone and sand dump trucks. Additionally, they highlighted manipulations at land ports, where textile products and yarn are being imported in excess of declared quantities, adversely affecting the domestic textile industry. The delegation also demanded closure of all Border Hats and installation of CCTV cameras to vigilance in bordering areas.
BTMA assured their full cooperation in this regard and mentioned that they had already requested the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to take strict measures.

The Director General mentioned that all Border Hats have been temporarily closed. He assured that necessary measures have been already been taken to enhance border security in order to prevent smuglling. He also promised to take stricter steps in the future to protect our local textile ang garments industries. DG BGB expressed his commitment to jointly work with BTMA to counter smuggling of yarn and textile product along Bangladesh-India border.

BTMA delegation was led by Mohd Khorshed Alam, Director and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Membership and Development of Local S/W/D Mr. Shahid Alam, Mr. B.M. Shoeb, and Mr. Md. Kamrul Hassan, Directors of BTMA and Brigadier General Md. Zakir Hossain, Secretary General of BTMA were present during the meeting.
From BGB side Additional DG ( operation & training), Bureau Chief, Border Security Bangladesh and other relevant BGB senior officials attended and participated in the dicussion.
