Desk Report: BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon said “We did not want the hike to this extent and we wants uninterrupted gas supply to keep up production told BTMA annual dinner and Gala night on 26 January at a hotel in the capital. Minister of Textile and Jute Mr.Golam Dastagir Gazi, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Salman F Rahman MP were present.
Our Spinning, weaving, dyeing-printing-finishing industries of Bangladesh are run on the basis of captive power generation, where gas is the main fuel,added Mr.Khokon.

On this event, Textile millers protested against the unusual increase in gas prices in the industrial sector and urged the government to retain the previous price.
Textile Millers feel that when the industries are barely operating their business amid various problems during the current global business slowdown, the situation will further aggravate due to this increase in gas prices.
As all the direct export sectors of the country are 100% dependent on primary textile industries, Textile millers is requesting the government to maintain the previous prices of gas for the sake of all the industries.
Industries of the country have urged the government to provide cash incentives and reduce various taxes so that they can recoup losses from the recently announced hikes in gas tariffs.
