The three-day BGMEA University of Fashion and Technolog-organised Shaheed Selim BUFT National Debate Competition 2024 concluded with a closing ceremony on the university campus in Dhaka on Monday.
Organised by the BUFT Debate Club, the competition drew 64 teams from colleges and universities across the country.
In the university level, Dhaka University team bagged the champion trophy, while Adamjee Cantonment College became champion in the college level in the competition. They received Tk 50,000 each, said a press release.
Chaired by BUFT BoT chairman Faruque Hassan, also former BGMEA president and managing director of Giant Group, environment, forest, and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan was present as chief guest at the event.
Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, founder member of BUFT BoT, and founder chairman of CBUFT; Salahuddin Ahmed, member of BUFT BoT; Feroz Hassan, chairman of Giant Group; and Md Sultan Talukdar, father of Shaheed Md Selim Talukdar addressed as special guests at the event.
BUFT acting vice-chancellor Professor Ayub Nabi Khan delivered the inaugural address at the event.
Special recognition was given to five BUFT students for their recent achievements at the Textile Talent Hunt, showcasing the sustainable innovations of the BUFT Textile Club.
Nafis Ahmed, adviser of the BUFT Debate Club, delivered a vote of thanks to conclude the event.
BUFT treasurer, deans, registrar, CFO, directors, heads of academic and administrative departments, faculty, officials, and students were present in the event.
A memorandum of understanding was signed to establish the Shafiuddin-Tasrifa Scholarship Fund, backed by a generous Tk 50 lakh donation honouring the parents of the BUFT board of trustees chairman.
The competition received generous support from Team Group, Posmi Sweaters Limited, Kaizer Knitwears Limited, M&J Group, and other sponsors.
