BUFT organized a seminar on ‘Prospects & Challenge of the 4IR for the RMG & Textile sector of Bangladesh’

Desk Report: BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) organized a seminar on ‘Prospects & Challenge of the 4 IR for the RMG & Textile sector of Bangladesh’ on 27 June at BUFT campus in Ashulia.

Prof.Dr.Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of BUFT presented a keynote titled ‘Prospects & Challenge of the 4IR for the RMG & Textile sector of Bangladesh’. Professor Ayub Nabi described the aspects of 4IR and the Bangladesh industry’s position, Govt policy support, challenges and way outs.

Prof.Nabi said in his presentation , 4IR is more about technology-driven change and an opportunity to help everyone (leaders, policy–makers and people from all income groups and nations), to harness converging technologies to create an inclusive, human-centred future. 

In this seminar, Industry experts from Urmi Group, Fakir fashion, Mithela Textile, Youth Spinning, Archroma, RH Corporation, Mind Mapper, Unicom Textile were present.

In this seminar speakers said, Textile and RMG industry of Bangladesh needs to get prepared to embrace the opportunities and face the challenges posed by Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). 

Experts also said, Industry and academia gaps include curriculum mismatch with the industry standard, lack of working environment for interns, and academics without industry exposure. Experts emphasise industry-academia collaboration to meet market demand, 4IR.

Prof. Dr. S.M. Mahfuzur Rahman, vice-chancellor of BUFT said, in his concluding speech, We have taken notes of the suggestions of the discussants of the seminar to use them in redesigning the curriculum of the university. He guided his students to remain focused to do necessary hardships to use modern technologies to connect with the industries. We need to have more dialogue on the skill gap between industry and academia to meet the 4IR.
