Recently, Team Textile Focus had an insightful conversation with Kyaw Sein Thay Dolly, Managing Director of Cloths “R” Us Ltd., to explore the company’s vision for sustainable sourcing, responsible production and Bangladesh’s evolving role in the global apparel supply chain. During the discussion, she shared her perspectives on market dynamics, buyer expectations and the importance of transparency, innovation and long-term partnerships in building a resilient and future-ready sourcing platform. The conversation also highlighted how Cloths “R” Us Ltd. continues to support international brands through value-driven solutions while strengthening Bangladesh’s position as a trusted and competitive destination for sustainable apparel sourcing. A brief discussion is given below for our respected readers.

Business Uncertainty and the Wait for Political Stability

Over the past 1.5 years, we have been operating in an unstable business environment. Our customers were also waiting for political stability and for the country’s economy to be run under an elected government. For this reason, we patiently waited for a credible and fair election. This period of uncertainty was not limited to the industry in Bangladesh alone; global industry partners working with Bangladesh were in a wait-and-see mode as well.

Tariff Structure and the Reality of US Cotton

Regarding the US cotton issue, although we have recently seen a one-percentage-point reduction in the counter-tariff, the previous tariff structure still remains in place. In practice, when we compare the two scenarios, products made with non-US cotton are subject to the basic tariff, the existing old tariff, and the counter-tariff. On the other hand, products made with US cotton are subject only to the old tariff. From a cost-structure perspective, the final export value between these two options is not expected to differ significantly. Nevertheless, any reduction in duties is positive and should be welcomed. We appreciate the government’s overall efforts and remain grateful for the initiatives taken in this regard.

The United States Market and Bangladesh’s Negotiation Strength

At the same time, given that the United States is a very large and strategic market for us, we believe there is substantial scope for export expansion. Therefore, our expectations are higher, and we feel that there is still room for better negotiation. Bangladesh has a very strong production capacity, and it is difficult for many competing countries to match its scale and capabilities. For this reason, our negotiating position remains strong and should not be underestimated.

Sustainability, Industry Reforms and Customer Confidence

Now that an elected government has been formed and industry representation in parliament has increased, we are hopeful that more effective reforms and stronger negotiations will be possible in the future. From the very beginning, we have focused on sustainability. Although the textile sector is considered one of the high-impact industries in terms of environmental pollution, our long-term approach has been to focus on supplying clothing with a lower environmental footprint. We continue to work consistently in this direction. Our performance remains strong, our customers are confident in our capabilities, and they highly appreciate our efforts, approach, and overall concept. All of our strategies and actions are driven by this commitment, and we are already seeing very positive results.
