Charting into 2026 – From Megawatts to Meaningful Impact: GGI’s Roadmap to Full Industrial Decarbonisation

As global apparel brands accelerate their climate commitments, Bangladesh’s garment industry stands at a critical turning point. The Greener Garments Initiative (GGI) was created to help factories navigate this transition. Jointly established by Heartland (BESTSELLER’s holding company) and SOLshare, the green utility company and supported by the Dutch Off-Grid Renewable Energy Fund (ORE Fund), GGI operates as an Energy Service Company (ESCO) delivering Decarbonisation-as-a-Service (DaaS) to the textile and apparel sector.

For many in the industry, 2025 marked GGI’s most active year to date. While rooftop solar has been a primary entry point for decarbonisation across Bangladesh, GGI focused on scaling solar deployment through established OPEX and ESCO models that reduce financial barriers for factories. By removing the need for upfront capital expenditure, these models enable factories to access clean electricity while continuing to purchase power at discounted rates over long-term contracts—making solar more accessible, predictable, and commercially viable.

By the end of 2025, GGI/ SOLshare  are in the process of commissioning/ have commissioned 25 MWp+ of rooftop solar capacity, generating approximately 10.45 GWh of clean electricity annually and reducing 7000 tCO₂ in carbon emissions. These projects were delivered across a diverse portfolio of garment manufacturers, including DEKKO Garments Ltd, Palmal Group, Divine Group, Unifill Composite Dyeing Ltd., COATS & others, demonstrating that decarbonisation is achievable at scale across different factory sizes and operational profiles. Collectively, this impact contributes to driving Bangladesh’s journey toward Net Zero while supporting global climate objectives set by international apparel brands and with  that the sector’s global competitiveness.

However, GGI’s experience in 2025 also reinforced a critical insight: solar alone is not enough. But it is a great entry product for a long-term customer relationship journey toward full industrial decarbonisation.

As GGI moves into 2026, the platform is transitioning decisively beyond rooftop solar toward integrated decarbonisation services. Bangladesh’s industrial sector requires solutions that address energy reliability, thermal efficiency, and water stewardship alongside clean power. In response, GGI is expanding its DaaS offering to include Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to reduce reliance on diesel generators, heat recovery systems to cut fuel consumption in thermal processes, and advanced water treatment and reuse solutions that support Zero Liquid Discharge while minimizing carbon intensity.

This evolution reflects a broader shift in the textile industry—from standalone installations to long-term, service-based decarbonisation partnerships. By combining clean electricity, energy efficiency, and water solutions under one platform, GGI is positioning itself as a trusted, turnkey partner for factories responding to stricter European regulations, rising resource constraints, and the need for long-term operational resilience.

As 2025 closes and 2026 begins, GGI’s journey signals a hopeful direction for the sector: moving from solar adoption to comprehensive, scalable decarbonisation, helping factories reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and remain competitive in a rapidly changing global market. Let’s decarbonize together.
