Commerce ministry announces names of 184 CIP awardees

According to a gazette notification published by the commerce ministry, the CIP list for 2022 includes Noman Group Managing Director ASM Rafiqul Islam, Pran-RFL Group Chairman Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, and others.

The Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday announced the names of 184 businessmen selected as Commercially Important Persons (CIPs) for 2022 in recognition of their contributions to the country’s export sector.

According to a gazette notification published by the commerce ministry, the CIP list for 2022 includes Noman Group Managing Director ASM Rafiqul Islam, Pran-RFL Group Chairman Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Akiz Group Chairman Sheikh Nasir Uddin, Akij Bashir Group Managing Director SK Bashir Uddin, and Envoy Textile Chairman Kutubuddin Ahmed.

A CIP receives a special ID card from the Ministry of Commerce and the government. The CIPs are invited to the Citizens’ reception for various national ceremonies, including entry to the Bangladesh Secretariat and the city corporation.

The CIPs have priority seating opportunities in most domestic public transport during business trips. To facilitate visas, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers a ‘Letter of Introduction’ to the Embassy concerned. They have access to VIP airport lounges, and their family members receive priority when booking hospital beds at government hospitals. The primary list of CIPs is prepared based on export amounts, income tax, value-added tax (VAT), the type of business, employment, and other aspects.
