Deng Peilei, Vice President of Handa Industries and Takashi Nakahashi, General Manager of MN Inter-Fashion Limited met with the Acting President of BGMEA Shahid Azim at BGMEA Complex on February 19 and seek the support of BGMEA for establishing a garment factory in Bangladesh.

Handa Industries is a China-based apparel manufacturing company. They have their own manufacturing units in China, Myanmar, and Egypt. They export more than 2 billion dollars worth of apparel to the EU and Japan. On the other hand, MN Inter-Fashion Limited is a Japanese buying house operating its business for more than six years in Bangladesh.
Deng Peilei said that Handa Industries is interested in establishing MMF-based fabric factory in Bangladesh. Since BGMEA is the apex association of Bangladesh’s RMG industry, they require necessary support from BGMEA. They also talked about the market potential of MMF-based high-value-added apparel.
Acting President of BGMEA Shahidullah Azim said BGMEA had already prioritized the non-cotton segment particularly MMF, polyester etc. with utmost importance. Since BGMEA envisages exporting 100 billion dollars worth of apparel by 2030 as part of their strategic growth target, there would be a huge opportunity in the non-cotton garment segment and backward linkage industries, where we would need more foreign investments.
He said BGMEA would provide all-out support to any kind of foreign investment and joint ventures in the area of non-cotton.
Other officials from BGMEA, Handa Industries and MN Inter-Fashion Limited were present in the meeting.
