Interim government’s Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has urged China to relocate some of its solar panel factories to Bangladesh as part of efforts to build a green economy.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Advisor at the State Guest House Jamuna. During the meeting, Dr. Yunus made this request to the Chinese government. The Chief Advisor emphasized the importance of fostering close economic cooperation between Beijing and Dhaka and invited Chinese investors to relocate their factories to Bangladesh. He noted that while China has emerged as one of the largest producers of solar panels, it is facing increasing barriers in export markets.
Professor Yunus, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006, said, “Chinese manufacturers can relocate their solar panel factories to Bangladesh. This will help Bangladesh diversify its exports and transition to a green economy.” As part of enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries, he also called for the expansion of imports of Bangladeshi products to China. Additionally, he urged for increased collaboration between the two nations in areas such as technology transfer, disaster management, education, and agriculture. Ambassador Yao Wen conveyed congratulations to Professor Muhammad Yunus on behalf of the Chinese leadership and people for taking charge of Bangladesh’s interim government.
The Ambassador said, “Beijing is ready to work with Dhaka, and I am hopeful that under Dr. Yunus’s leadership, the dream of building a poverty-free Bangladesh will be successfully realized.” Addressing the Chief Advisor, he added, “Under your leadership, the future of Bangladesh will be even brighter and more prosperous.”
The Ambassador also mentioned that the strategic and cooperative partnership between China and Bangladesh has reached new heights in recent times, and both countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year.
