Q. How has the response been for DTG 2025?

Abdullah Al Mamun: DTG (Dhaka International Textile & Garment Machinery Exhibition) is a premier event in the textile and garment machinery sector of Bangladesh, attracting global manufacturers, suppliers and industry professionals. This year, the response has been quite satisfactory with strong participation from renowned textile machinery manufacturers. DTG 2025 promises enhanced business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and access to cutting-edge technologies that can drive industry growth.

Q.  How is BTMA managing this mega exhibition?

Abdullah Al Mamun: BTMA, in collaboration with Yorkers Trade & Marketing Service Co., Ltd., Hong Kong is organizing DTG 2025 from February 20th to 23rd 2025 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), Dhaka. The exhibition will host over 1,100 exhibitors from 33 countries across the world having 1,600 booths. BTMA has meticulously planned and coordinated with stakeholders, including relevant government departments to ensure a seamless event that fosters industry collaboration, technological advancements, and business expansion. A separate Sub Committee was convened by BTMA Board of Directors for smooth management of the event.

Q.  What is your observation on the overall industry situation?

Abdullah Al Mamun: Bangladesh’s textile and garment industry is a vital economic pillar and the world’s second largest RMG exporter after China. However, the sector faces host of pressing challenges e.g., disruption/inadequate gas supply despite high price, high bank interest rates, wage increases, and currency devaluation etc. Without policy and financial intervention, many factories risk closure. Immediate government support—such as uninterrupted gas supply, reinstated export cash incentives, and lower interest rates—is crucial for sustaining competitiveness and preventing industry setbacks.

Q.  What are BTMA’s key focus areas?

Abdullah Al Mamun: BTMA is coherently working with other trade bodies to mitigate challenges in the industrial in general and textile sector in particular. We are focused to ensure uninterrupted power supply (gas and electricity) prevent further gas price hike, which threatens factory viability and investment prospects. We advocate for sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing to align with global standards and boost competitiveness. Additionally, BTMA supports members through financial assistance for trade exhibitions, access to advanced technologies and initiatives promoting best practices. Our goal is to build a resilient, competitive, and sustainable textile industry.

Q.  Any key messages for the industry?

Abdullah Al Mamun: The global market is shifting towards sustainability and ethical labor practices. Bangladeshi manufacturers must adopt eco-friendly production methods and comply with international labor standards to maintain global competitiveness. Embracing these changes will attract investment, strengthen Bangladesh’s global positioning, and secure long-term industry growth.
