Tusuka is in the garment business since 1997, starting as a buying house named “Texel” focusing only on the woven market. With the vision of specialized denim/jeans making, in 2001 Tusuka started its venture as a jeans manufacturer with only 2 sewing lines and a small washing project to take the opportunity of globally growing demand for denim garments. After a year management found the necessity of a world-class in-house washing section to fulfill the vision. So from 2003 management started to expand the washing and new sewing lines in its compound. Now Tusuka has a sewing capacity of 100,000 Per Day with 67 sewing lines specialized in denim garment making, also has a washing capacity of 90,000 pcs per day for Dry Process and 105,000 pcs per day for Wet Process.

Textile Focus: Could please give your opinion of the present Bangladesh RMG situation, its growth, prospects, and future challenges from a merchandising point of view?
Engr. Shariful Islam: The RMG sector in Bangladesh stands as a testament to the country’s industrial prowess and resilience. As of now, Bangladesh is the second-largest exporter of garments in the world after China. This industry contributes significantly to the nation’s GDP and provides employment to over 4 million people where the majority of workers are women. The sector’s success can be attributed to its ability to offer competitive pricing, quality production, and timely deliveries which have solidified its reputation on the global stage.
The RMG sector of Bangladesh has experienced robust growth despite global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic which disrupted supply chains and demand. Bangladesh’s garment industry has shown remarkable recovery and growth in the Russian-Ukraine war. This resilience is evident in the increasing number of orders from major international brands. The country’s investment in technology, compliance with international labor standards, and sustainable practices have further enhanced its competitiveness.
From a merchandising perspective, I can say the growth of the RMG sector can be seen in the diversification of products and markets. Merchandisers have played a crucial role in identifying new trends, sourcing sustainable materials, and establishing efficient supply chains that meet the ever-changing demands of consumers.
The future of the RMG sector in Bangladesh looks promising. With increasing investments in automation and digitalization, the industry is poised to enhance its productivity and efficiency. The adoption of advanced technologies such as AI and IoT in manufacturing processes will not only improve quality but also reduce lead times to make Bangladesh an even more attractive destination for global retailers.
To enhance efficiency in a Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector a high-standard niche like Perfumer Clubs a comprehensive approach is needed. The professional club will play a platform for sharing knowledge and experience.
