Ecopack Bangladesh Driving Jute Innovation for Technical Textiles, Insights from Techtextil: Merve Edisan, Import & Export Manager, Ecopack Bangladesh

“Ecopack is a Bangladesh-based company, and our core strength lies in jute, which is our natural resource and heritage. Alongside our production in Bangladesh, we operate a warehouse in Turkey, which allows us to respond quickly to European markets and manage efficient logistics both within Europe and back to Bangladesh,” said Merve Edisan.

Highlighting the purpose of their participation at Techtextil, she explained, “We are here to explore how jute can evolve beyond its traditional uses and enter the technical textiles segment. Today, the world is actively looking for sustainable, biodegradable materials, and jute offers a strong, natural alternative. Our focus is to understand how we can develop jute for more advanced, functional applications.” Merve emphasized that the exhibition provides a unique platform for direct engagement with global developers and industry stakeholders. “We are discussing with different partners to understand their specific needs, what they are currently using, and how jute can potentially replace synthetic materials. These conversations are very important for us, as they help shape our future product development.”

She noted that while demand for natural fibers is already strong, Ecopack is working to expand jute’s role in technical end uses. “We see opportunities in sectors like automotive and geotextiles, where there is increasing interest in sustainable solutions. Our goal is to develop jute-based materials that meet the technical requirements of these industries while maintaining their environmental benefits.”

According to Merve, many buyers at Techtextil are increasingly “sensitive” toward sustainability and are actively seeking alternatives to synthetic fibers. “A lot of companies want to replace synthetic materials with jute because it is strong and natural. However, this transition is not simple; it requires technical development, testing, and collaboration. With our engineering team, we are working on how to make these solutions practical and scalable.”

She also highlighted that demand trends in Turkey and Europe are closely aligned, particularly in the shift toward eco-friendly materials. “Jute is a Bangladesh fiber, and we believe its production must remain rooted in Bangladesh. As a Bangladeshi company, we want to strengthen this position globally and show that jute can play a significant role not only in traditional sectors but also in advanced technical applications.”

Through innovation in processing and product development, Ecopack aims to position Bangladesh as a stronger player in the global sustainable materials market by leveraging jute as a key driver of future growth.
