Eight ambassadors and 18 countries’ representatives visited LEED-certified Mithela Textile Industries in Bangladesh

Desk Report: The representatives of 18 countries, including the ambassadors of 8 countries, visited Mithela Textile Industries one of the LEED Platinum-certified factory on 28 January at Narayanganj.

During the visit, the ambassadors and delegations expressed satisfaction with the factory’s working environment, safety, energy saving and other issues. During the visit, German Ambassador Akhim Troster, Russian Ambassador Alexander Mantitsky, Saudi Ambassador Isa Bin Yusuf Al Duhailan, Vietnam Ambassador Pham Viet Chien, Norwegian Ambassador Espen Rickter-Vendsen, Nepal Ambassador Ghan Shyam Bhandari, including the United States, Brunei, Australia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands were present.

Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley said, “We are proud to be the largest customer of Bangladesh’s readymade garments. We had a trade of around $19 billion last year,” he said while visiting Mithela Textile Industries Limited in Narayanganj, which is certified by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED.

Foreign ministry senior secretary Masud Bin Momen, Mohammad Hatem, executive president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Faruque Hassan, president of the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers Exporters Association (BGMEA), Mithela Group Chairman, Azahar Khan, Nazrul Islam Babu MP Managing Director Sohel Khan, Director, Mahbub Khan Himel and Kayes Khan were also present during the visit.

BGMEA president Faruque Hassan said that Bangladesh has 184 LEED-certified garment factories which are the highest in the world. Some 500 factories are in the process of being certified.

“The purpose of this visit was to showcase the progress and development that Bangladesh has made during the last several years after the Rana Plaza collapse,” he said.

Mithela Textile Industries Limited (MTIL) has been successfully certified by the US Green Building Council for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) as the only green woven dyeing factory in the platinum category.

Bangladesh is the role model in the world for green industry and Mithela Group is a green and clean industrial model for the 21st century. A sister concern of the Mithela group, Mithela Textile Industries Limited (MTIL) is the world’s first LEED Platinum Certified Green Textile factory in Bangladesh, established with world-class excellence in 2016 in Narayangonj.
