A delegation from the Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance, visited BGMEA on 30 September to discuss Bangladesh’s progress in green manufacturing and preparations for the upcoming COP30, scheduled to take place in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025.
The discussion focused on the decarbonization pathway of the RMG sector and Bangladesh’s global leadership in green buildings. With 263 factories already LEED certified, Bangladesh today holds the highest number of top-rated green garment factories in the world, setting a remarkable benchmark for sustainable manufacturing.
During the meeting, BGMEA Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan emphasized the importance of aligning the sector’s efforts with COP30’s global climate agenda, particularly in accelerating decarbonization and strengthening the industry’s transition to a circular economy.
She further underlined the importance of accessing international climate finance mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Green Transformation Fund (GTF) platform to enable the sector’s low-carbon transition. These resources, coupled with Bangladesh’s progress on green building and circularity, can help unlock new opportunities for innovation, market access, and resilience in the RMG industry.
