Desk Report: European Union Mission visited Dhaka on March 13 on a five-day tour to review the continuation of the EU’s Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). Director for International Affairs at the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL) of the EU Jordi Curell Gotor led the mission. Officials from Directorate-General for Trade and European Action Service representatives also participated.
EU Mission visited Masco Cottons Ltd on 17th March’22. They were keen to assess the progress in the implementation of the National Action Plan on labor and human standards to determine eligibility for the trade facility. The team assessed the Country’s progress in ensuring a safe working environment.
Masco Group Chairman Mr. M.A. Sabur; Managing Director Mr. Ahmed Arif Billah, Director, Ms. Fahima Akter & Farhana Akter; Executive Director, Mr. A.T.M. Mahbubul Alam, Director, Mr. Taufique Anowar had a warm welcome to delegates at factory Premises. The combined meeting was directed in presence of EU delegates, H&M Leadership, ILO Better work and Masco high officials at Masco Conference Room. A details overview of Masco, presented by Executive Director, Mr. A.T.M. Mahbubul Alam focusing Business establishment, Masco Commitments towards sustainability (Social & Environmental), Employee Engagement and their happiness. There was Q&A session at the end of the Presentation.
EU Mission visited factory production floors to see the details production process, Health and Safety measures, working conditions etc. They had separate meetings with Trade Union representatives in presence of ILO Better works officials.
EU Mission expressed their full satisfaction and conveyed their best regards to Masco Management. The visit was very successful which was acknowledged by Mr. Anis, Chief Technical Advisor of the Better Work Bangladesh Program of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
