Fakir Fashion Ltd-one of the country’s leading apparel exporters, has unveiled its first sustainability report titled “Greener by Design.”

The report was launched on Thursday (9th April) at an event in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Dhaka, attended by industry leaders, development partners, and representatives of international brands.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Mohammad Hatem, President, BKMEA; Ehsan Fazlee Shamim, Executive President of BKMEA and President, BEF; Vidiya Amrit Khan, Vice President, BGMEA; Max Tuñón, Country Director of International Labour Organization in Bangladesh; Mohammad Hasan Arif, Vice-Chairman of Export Promotion Bureau; Mohammad Rashed, Vice President, BKMEA; Michael Klode, Project Manager at GIZ; and Mr. Selim Reza Hasan, Country Manager, Solidaridad Network Asia.

The event featured a panel discussion titled “From Compliance to Competitive Advantage: Leading Bangladesh’s Evolution into a Global Sustainable Apparel Hub,” bringing together a distinguished group of minds. The panel comprised dignitaries and leaders from Fakir Fashion Ltd., H&M Liaison Office, Inditex (ITX) – Liaison Office, BGMEA, and BKMEA, who discussed the realities of sustainable practices in the RMG sector and explored how sustainability can be effectively balanced with business growth. Moreover, the event was graced by representatives from various global brands, including C&A, Tom Tailor, New York & Company, NEXT, El Corte Inglés, Ginatricot, OTCF, Pepe Jeans, and many more.
BKMEA President said in his speech, “Sustainability is no longer just a concept; it has become a global priority for the industrial sector.” This initiative, under the Sustainability Reporting Initiative Project, reflects BKMEA’s commitment to promoting environmental responsibility, social accountability, and good governance within the industry.

The publication of this report sets a strong example and inspires the sector to move towards a more sustainable and responsible future, he added.
The report reflects the company’s strong and ongoing commitment to sustainability. Fakir Fashion has always invested in sustainability, and ‘Greener by Design’ showcases its results through 19% waste reduction, 7% lower GHG intensity, 13% lower energy consumption, and 11.7M litres of rainwater harvested, along with progress in workforce development that supports its long-term sustainability strategy.

The evening ended with remarks from Mr. Fakir Kamruzzaman Nahid, Managing Director, Fakir Fashion Ltd, where Mr. Nahid noted, “Our promise is simple: to build sustainable clothes for a sustainable future.”
