Financing Transformation in the Global Apparel and Textile Sector

BGMEA Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan participated as a distinguished speaker at the session “Financing Transformation in the Global Apparel and Textile Sector”, held during London Climate Action Week (LCAW) 2026.

The event was jointly organized on June 24 by the Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI) and British International Investment (BII), bringing together global brands, manufacturers, financial institutions, and industry leaders to discuss practical pathways for accelerating decarbonization across the apparel and textile sector.

The BGMEA delegation also included Miran Ali, Chair, Standing Committee on Decarbonization, and Kamran Sadique, Co-Chair, Standing Committee on Decarbonization.

During the discussion, Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan highlighted Bangladesh’s progress in advancing manufacturer-led sustainability initiatives, emphasizing that decarbonization must be supported by accessible climate finance, enabling policies, and strong partnerships.

She also shared BGMEA’s ongoing efforts to promote renewable energy adoption, circularity, resource efficiency, and industry-wide collaboration, while stressing that a just and practical transition is essential to ensure the competitiveness and resilience of Bangladesh’s RMG sector.

She mentioned that achieving sustainability goals should no longer be the responsibility of the manufacturers in Bangladesh only, but also a joint and shared responsibility (including financial cost sharing) of the Brands for which the manufacturers are producing. She mentioned that while a small number of notable brands take an approach for shared responsibility, the majority do not and that, this approach must change for the cause of greater sustainability.
