Germany is eager to strengthen bilateral trade and economic cooperation with Bangladesh, said newly appointed German Ambassador Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, during a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The discussions focused on expanding trade, boosting investment, and promoting economic collaboration between the two countries. Ambassador Lotz emphasized Germany’s commitment to supporting diversified trade partnerships and enhancing economic cooperation with Bangladesh.
Commerce Adviser Bashir highlighted that Bangladesh and Germany enjoy strong trade relations, but stressed the need for diversification to maximize mutual benefits. He noted that Germany ranks as Bangladesh’s second-largest export destination after the United States, accounting for 10.96% of total export earnings.
Bashir encouraged German importers to increase purchases of Bangladeshi products, including ready-made garments, home textiles, pharmaceuticals, plastic goods, footwear, bicycles, and leather products.
Ambassador Lotz also praised Bangladesh’s growing economic capacity and reiterated Germany’s support for initiatives that promote trade diversification and investment opportunities.
Official figures show that in the 2023–2024 fiscal year, Bangladesh exported goods worth $4.85 billion to Germany while importing $940.60 million, reflecting a strong trade relationship with significant growth potential.
The meeting was attended by Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy Enza Kristen, underscoring the high-level commitment to fostering closer economic ties.
