The Greener Garments Initiative (GGI), Bangladesh’s first energy service company (ESCO) dedicated to the ready-made garments (RMG) sector, has taken another major stride in transforming the nation’s industrial energy landscape. GGI proudly announces its latest partnership with Unifill Composite Dyeing Mills Ltd., marking a key addition to its growing solar portfolio across Bangladesh’s textile industry.

Under this agreement, GGI will deploy a 1,145.52 kWp DC rooftop solar power system at Unifill’s state-of-the-art facility in Vobanipur, Gazipur. Once operational, the installation will significantly reduce Unifill’s dependence on grid electricity, cut energy costs, and lower carbon emissions – demonstrating the tangible business case for sustainability.

The signing ceremony brought together the leadership from the renowned global fashion brand, Bestseller, Mr Dishan Karunaratne, Chief Representative for Bangladesh & Pakistan, and Mr Dewan Nurual Islam, Chemical & Environment Manager, from Unifill Group, Mr Noor A. Ahsan, Deputy Director, as well as from GGI, Dr. Sebastian Groh, Board Director, Ms. Aziza Sultana Mukti, Managing Director and Mr. Syed Istiaque Ahmed, Chief Technology Officer. The collaboration reflects a shared vision of accelerating Bangladesh’s transformation to cleaner, more efficient industrial energy systems.

This project adds momentum to GGI’s mission to mainstream renewable energy across the RMG sector, helping factories cut operational costs while meeting global buyers’ sustainability expectations. With its innovative ESCO model, GGI enables factories to install solar systems with no upfront investment, repaying the system through the savings it generates in an innovative partnership model between an EPC and fashion brand.

Backed by the Dutch Off-Grid Renewable Energy Fund (ORE Fund) managed by One to Watch and Truvalu, and jointly established by SOLshare, Bangladesh’s pioneering climate-tech company, and Heartland, the family office of global fashion brand BESTSELLER, GGI continues to bridge the gap between sustainability commitments and real-world impact.

With the Unifill project, GGI strengthens its role as a trusted partner in powering the RMG sector’s green transition – one rooftop at a time. GGI welcomes more factories to step forward and work with GGI on a profitable decarbonisation journey, as well as brands to join the initiative. Reach out to us at mukti.sultana@greenergarments.com.
