Govt. awarded 7 associations for contribution to Textile sector


Desk Report: Bangladesh government awarded seven associations for contribution to the Textile sector on behalf of National Textile Day held on 4 December in an auditorium in the capital. Honorable minister, Ministry of Textile, and Jute minister Ghulam Dastagir Ghazi provided the award.

The seven associations that received awards are BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA, BTTLMA, BGBA, BSTMPIA, Bangladesh Weaver Samiti.


National Textile Day is being celebrated every year to highlight the bright potentiality of the globalization of the textiles sector-sustainable development. Textile, traders, entrepreneurs of multipurpose RMG products, users of yarn business associations, local people, print and electronic media, local public representatives and people of various classes and businesses are encouraged to spread RMG products and promote awareness.

To observe the day several related govt. institutions, trade bodies undertook various activities. Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Md. Abdul Hamid gave separate messages on this occasion.

The textiles sector is playing an important role for rural poverty alleviation, women empowerment and employment generation, after independence, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had nationalized the textiles and jute sector in an attempt to make the sector a ‘boom’said, Ghulam Dastagir Ghazi.
