Govt to create digital worker database

Desk Report: The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) has announced that it will create a digital database of workers from both formal and informal sectors.

The project—Labour Information Management System (LIMS)—will digitally manage labourers’ information and help develop their skills for workplaces, according to Bangladeshi media reports.

Labour secretary Ehsan-e-Elahi said approval of the project from the ministry of planning is being awaited.

Initially five formal sectors—tea garden, readymade garments, pharmaceuticals, tannery and ship-breaking—have been prioritised. Gradually, labour force from all the sectors will be covered,

With the completion of the digital database, it will be easier to provide all kinds of facilities to the national workers, especially their assistance and payment of dues, since all the information of the workers can be found very easily
