Gtech Infrastructure Ltd. and M.S. Dyeing, Printing & Finishing Ltd. (MSDPFL) are advancing Bangladesh’s industrial renewable energy transition through a 5.85 MWp rooftop solar power project across 13 industrial rooftops at the BSCIC Industrial Estate in Fatullah, Narayanganj.

The Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) is financing the project under a financing agreement signed with MSDPFL at IDCOL’s headquarters in Dhaka. Once operational, the rooftop solar installation is expected to generate approximately 6.3 GWh of clean electricity annually and reduce around 3,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. The project represents a significant step toward integrating renewable energy into Bangladesh’s textile and dyeing industry, where uninterrupted and cost-efficient energy supply remains critical to production competitiveness.

A Strategic Move for Sustainable Textile Manufacturing
Md Mamunur Rashid, Managing Director of M.S. Dyeing, Printing & Finishing Ltd., said the 5.85 MWp project marks an important milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable and energy-efficient manufacturing. He emphasized that renewable energy is becoming increasingly important for textile manufacturers as energy costs, carbon reduction requirements and sustainability expectations continue to influence global sourcing decisions.
According to him, integrating rooftop solar into MSDPFL’s industrial operations will help reduce dependence on conventional grid electricity while improving long-term energy efficiency. The initiative is also expected to strengthen the company’s environmental performance and help build a more resilient manufacturing operation. He further noted that sustainability is no longer simply an environmental responsibility for textile manufacturers; it has become an important factor in maintaining competitiveness in international markets. Investments in renewable energy, therefore, can help companies respond to the evolving requirements of global buyers while reducing their environmental footprint.

Gtech Highlights Industrial Solar Potential

Mr. D M Abu Bakar Siddique, Managing Director & CEO of Gtech Infrastructure Ltd., highlighted the importance of collaboration between financial institutions, industrial manufacturers and renewable energy developers in accelerating Bangladesh’s clean energy transition. He said rooftop solar provides a practical pathway for industries to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions by utilizing existing factory infrastructure without requiring additional land.
For Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry, where large manufacturing facilities have substantial rooftop areas, Siddique noted that industrial rooftop solar has considerable potential for large-scale deployment. He emphasized that projects such as the 5.85 MWp installation demonstrate how existing industrial infrastructure can be transformed into productive clean-energy assets. He also underscored the importance of developing long-term partnerships among project developers, manufacturers and financial institutions to make renewable energy more accessible to industries. According to Siddique, the MSDPFL project can serve as a model for other textile and manufacturing companies looking to integrate renewable energy into their production systems and improve both operational efficiency and environmental performance.

IDCOL Supports Industrial Renewable Energy
SM Monirul Islam, Acting Managing Director of IDCOL, highlighted the scalability of industrial rooftop solar in Bangladesh and reaffirmed IDCOL’s commitment to mobilizing private-sector capital for clean energy projects. IDCOL has already financed around 300 MWp of rooftop solar projects and is working toward its broader target of financing 1,200 MWp of industrial solar power capacity by 2030. SM Monirul Islam, Acting Managing Director of IDCOL, and Md Mamunur Rashid, Managing Director of MSDPFL, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mohammad Hatem, President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), along with senior officials from IDCOL, MSDPFL and other stakeholders. Mohammad Hatem welcomed the initiative as an important step toward sustainable manufacturing, noting that investments in green infrastructure can strengthen the global competitiveness and long-term viability of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector.
Supporting Bangladesh’s Clean Energy Goals
The 5.85 MWp project is expected to contribute significantly to MSDPFL’s clean energy transition while supporting Bangladesh’s broader renewable energy and climate commitments under its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). With an expected annual generation of 6.3 GWh and estimated emissions reductions of 3,900 tonnes of CO₂, the project highlights the growing role of rooftop solar in addressing both energy security and environmental sustainability within Bangladesh’s industrial sector.
The collaboration among Gtech Infrastructure Ltd., M.S. Dyeing, Printing & Finishing Ltd. and IDCOL demonstrates how industrial manufacturers, renewable energy developers and financial institutions can work together to accelerate the adoption of clean energy and build a more sustainable future for Bangladesh’s textile industry.
