H&M Group Collaborates with Chorka Textile Ltd. to Pilot Three Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Production in Bangladesh

H&M Group is taking a leap forward to pilot European Plan Zero members Revozona AG, Imogo AB and Pluvia’s new technologies at Chorka Textile Ltd., one of the group’s long-standing partners in Bangladesh. For the first time, these disruptive technologies will be assessed simultaneously under the same roof, building a solid case to confirm their combined potential for significant energy, water and chemical savings throughout the complete production process.

“We are very excited about this partnership. Supporting and investing in new technologies is crucial to find scalable solutions to climate change. They also play a critical role in helping us achieve our ambitious goals to reduce 56% of our greenhouse gas emissions and to reduce by 30% the freshwater extraction and consumption in our supply chain by 2030. This is an excellent example of how we can shift towards using more electricity. Only if we move to electricity we can achieve systemic solutions and this partnership is a great example of how we can make a significant impact together,” says Ziaur Rahman, Production Country Manager H&M Bangladesh. “We hope with this project we will prove that electrification is possible. Of course, the transition will be fully dependent on reliable grid infrastructure, and it will therefore to be crucial to have a conversation with key stakeholders on how we can achieve that,” Ziaur Rahman adds.

“Plan Zero is more than just a technology cluster; it is a catalyst for a sustainable revolution in the textile industry. By combining innovative solutions and empowering companies to reduce their environmental impact, we are paving the way for a future where fashion and sustainability go hand in hand,” says Gérard J. Peters, Global Coordinator Plan Zero.

“As we continue to grow in manufacturing, the environment remains an extremely important agenda for us. In a small country like Bangladesh, where so many people depend on a sustainable future, our commitment to the environment is not just a responsibility but a necessity. Partnering with H&M Group, a leading global fashion and designing company that shares our goal of bringing sustainability to the forefront, allows us to connect and implement the best practices that will benefit not just Bangladesh but the world. This partnership sets a strong example for the entire industry, demonstrating how growth and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. With H&M’s leadership and our shared vision, we aim to elevate our industrialization to the next level while setting new standards for sustainability,” says Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Chairman & CEO Pran RFL Group.

Most of the industry’s greenhouse gas emissions take place when making fibres, processing materials and dyeing fabrics. That is why H&M Group is focusing its support for disruptive technology in these stages of the fabric and garment manufacturing processes.

From ozone pre-treatment and bleaching Revozona AG to digital spray dyeing Imogo AB and highly-efficient after-treatment Pluvia, these three technologies are designed to minimize waste, reduce emissions and conserve water resources. With the combined efforts of H&M Group and Chorka Textile Ltd. to assess Revozona AG, Imogo AB and Pluvia’s technology there is a potential reduction of halving GHG emissions and water use.

The H&M group has been present in Bangladesh with its own production office since the early 80s and building long-term relationships with its’ suppliers with the commitment to achieve a more sustainable fashion future. This includes dedicating green investments to accelerate the decarbonization of its’ business.
