How World’s top LEED platinum certified woven dyeing factory ensuring sustainability

Mithela Textile Industries Limited, a leading name in Bangladesh’s textile sector, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the world’s first woven dyeing factory to receive LEED Platinum certification under the LEED 2009 New Construction (LEED-NC v2009) rating system. This landmark recognition has been awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and certified by the Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), positioning Mithela as a pioneer in sustainable manufacturing on the global stage.

Mithela Textile Industries scored an outstanding 91 out of 110 possible points, far surpassing the minimum Platinum threshold of 80 points. This achievement not only represents a source of national pride for Bangladesh but also establishes a global benchmark in eco-friendly industrial practices. The certification highlights include strong performance in Sustainable Sites (24/26) through eco-sensitive development, green transportation facilities, and stormwater management systems; Water Efficiency (8/10) with a nearly 30% reduction in water consumption through advanced technologies and wastewater recycling; and Energy and Atmosphere (33/35) through exceptional energy savings, reliance on renewable energy, advanced refrigerant management, and green power procurement. Additional strengths were demonstrated in Materials and Resources (6/14), Indoor Environmental Quality (10/15), Innovation in Design (6/6), and Regional Priority Credits (4/4).

This recognition is a significant step forward for Bangladesh’s green industrial movement. The country has already gained global recognition as a hub for sustainable garment and textile factories, and Mithela’s achievement reinforces its reputation as a responsible sourcing destination for global apparel brands. By adopting state-of-the-art eco-friendly practices, Mithela Textile Industries is helping to transform one of the world’s most resource-intensive industries. The LEED Platinum certification signals a shift from traditional manufacturing models to a future where sustainability and efficiency define competitiveness.

Global fashion brands are increasingly prioritizing sustainable supply chain practices, and Mithela’s achievement ensures it is positioned as a preferred partner by offering textiles that meet both international quality standards and strict sustainability requirements. Beyond reducing environmental impact, the factory ensures a healthier and more comfortable workplace for employees by improving indoor air quality, optimizing thermal comfort, and providing abundant access to natural daylight. The certification also reflects Mithela’s responsibility toward community well-being, resource conservation, and climate resilience, serving as a model for the wider textile and apparel industry.

Mithela Textile Industries Limited is a Bangladesh-based woven dyeing factory dedicated to innovation, sustainability, and excellence in textile manufacturing. With a strong focus on environmental stewardship, Mithela aims to set new global benchmarks for sustainable production in the textile sector.
