Textile Focus: How do you see the textile industry of Bangladesh for 2021?

Hasin Arman: Bangladesh RMG & Textile industry has been showing an upward curve since the beginning. We have seen a lot of struggles till now yet we are here standing as one of the largest exporters in the world. Keeping the good faith if the COVID situation becomes a bit normal there will be an increased market demand worldwide and Bangladesh will have a big chunk of it.

Textile Focus: What was your observation in 2020 during COVID-19?

Hasin Arman: 2020 was like a nightmare for most of the business conglomerates except for IT companies. There was a lot of order cancelation, holding, crisis of money but we somehow managed to survive the pandemic. We have seen world’s biggest economic recession and there was a number of small factories who could not survive the pandemic due to unavailability of funds. Payments have been stuck whereas we are holding millions of dollars’ worth ready stocks. However, thanks to our stakeholders they are taking the goods step by step and it’s a positive sign.

Textile Focus: How we can promote our industry in upcoming days?

Hasin Arman: I have said on my other interviews as well that every economic recession/ natural disaster comes with new opportunities. For instance there is a good number of medical clothing, variety of different products in the apparel bucket list. We should really look into them to expand our market share. Bangladesh is a country consisting of the maximum number of Green factories in the world.

I can bet on that the facilities of our green factories are not less than any 5 star hotel. The CSR we have been doing are example for all other countries. This is high time we have to start promoting our industry leading by examples but we should start from our country first, the perceptions our nationalities have for this industry should be changed and of course we have to keep focusing on our tier one countries and our brands.

Textile Focus: Any message from you for the industry?

Hasin Arman: As we see the market has become much competitive and Vietnam is on the verge of having the advantage, we have to work as a unit. RMG entrepreneurs must act like a whole unit and we must stop the unhealthy competition within us. There are so many products in the apparel HS code and we should focus on other products for our growth. While planning the production capacity it is of utmost importance to understand the demand and supply and plan accordingly. Lastly improving the efficiency and new market expansion has to be on top of our priority list.
