Inditex CEO Óscar García Maceiras leads delegation to BGMEA to discuss RMG Industry development collaboration

A high-level delegation from Inditex, one of the world’s largest fashion retailers, led by CEO Óscar García Maceiras, visited the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on April 6.

Anwar Hossain, Administrator of BGMEA, warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed thanks for their visit.

The meeting was attended by key members of the BGMEA Support Committee, including Inamul Haque Khan Bablu, Asif Ashraf, Shams Mahmud, and other BGMEA leaders.

The Inditex delegation was comprised of several key figures, including Francisco Javier Losada Montero, Chief Sustainability Officer; Raul Estradera Vazquez, CEO Office- Head of Press & Communications; Santiago Martinez Lage Sobredo, Head of Public Affairs; Javier C. Santonja Olcina, Country Head; and Carlos Pineiro Aneiros, Head of Community Investment.

The discussions focused on several key issues pertaining to the development of Bangladesh’s RMG sector, including collaboration opportunities, business expansion prospects, and strategies to enhance the industry’s global competitiveness.

CEO Óscar García Maceiras commended the remarkable transformation of Bangladesh’s garment industry over the past decades, particularly in areas such as workplace safety and environmental sustainability.

He expressed hope that the country’s continued efforts in these areas would further strengthen its position in the global market.

Highlighting Inditex’s longstanding partnership with Bangladesh, with over 25 years of collaboration, Maceiras expressed the company’s commitment to expanding its business in the country in the coming days.

BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain provided an insightful overview of the RMG industry’s current status, highlighting ongoing efforts in product diversification, innovation, and technological advancement.

Both sides engaged in meaningful discussions on potential collaborations aimed at transferring knowledge to scale up the capabilities of Bangladesh’s RMG sector, with a particular focus on sustainability, innovation, and technology adaptation.

BGMEA leaders also highlighted the prospect of the use of sustainable materials, particularly jute, in garment manufacturing, as part of efforts to further promote eco-friendly practices in the industry.

BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain urged Inditex to strengthen its partnership with Bangladeshi suppliers, focusing on enhancing capabilities in the production of value-added garments.
