Industry must move towards more technology-driven, efficient and sustainable production systems

Bangladesh International Textile, Knitting and Garment Industry Exhibition (BTKG Expo 2026), an international exhibition of machinery and technology for the country’s ready-made garments, knitwear and textile sectors, began today, Wednesday. The exhibition was inaugurated at Hall 5 (Pushpanjali) of the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Purbachal, the capital.

The four-day exhibition has been organized by the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Esha Înforchain Digital Technology Ltd. The opening ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Honorable Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. Honorable Minister of Commerce, Mr. Khandaker Abdul Muktadir was present as the special guest.

At the inaugural ceremony, Finance Minister Mr. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury delivered an important speech on the current status, trends and prospects of the country’s ready-made garment sector. He said that many countries, including Bangladesh, are under trade pressure due to global economic changes, especially the increase in interest rates by the US Federal Reserve, the strong position of the dollar and the rise in energy prices.

He further mentioned that with the help of the government, the prices of gas and electricity in the country have been kept much lower than the international market, which is playing a supportive role for the industrial sector. He also expressed hope that if such a supportive environment is maintained, businessmen will be able to face the current challenges and move forward.

The chief guest also said that Bangladesh’s ready-made garment sector has carved out an important position in the global market and the country is being considered a reliable sourcing destination for international buyers.

Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir was present as the special guest and emphasized the use of modern technology in the industrial sector.

The event was presided over by BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem, and the exhibition convener Fazle Shamim Ehsan delivered the welcome address. Spencer Lin, Executive Director of Inforchain Digital Technology Limited also spoke, and the closing speech of the event was delivered by BKMEA Vice President Mr. Mohammad Rashed.

This year, 900 exhibitors from 28 countries around the world, including Bangladesh, are participating in the exhibition. The event is spread over an area of ​​about 20,000 square meters with a total of 1,200 booths. Companies from various countries, including Canada, China, Taiwan, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, are displaying their latest products and technologies.

The exhibition showcases the latest machinery, dyes and chemicals, knitting and weaving technology, embroidery, cutting and sewing machines, washing and dry cleaning technology, and various innovative solutions for the textile and garment sector. The event is expected to play an important role in the modernization of the industrial sector, technology update, and expansion of international trade.

Companies from various countries, including France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, are showcasing their latest products and technologies.
